An Integrated Approach to Patient Care

Human beings are very complex. From anatomy and physiology to emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships, all aspects of biopsychosocial influences must be considered in the patient and their treatment program.

Join Functional Podiatrist & Functional Medicine Fellow Dr Emily Splichal as she explores the science of how people behave and cope with illness or injury that can directly influence their outcomes. Explore the impact of chronic stress, ANS dysfunction, inflammation, pain, poor sleep, disturbed HRV on the healing body.

Content Outline:

  • What is the biopsychosocial model and how does it differ from a biomedical model?
  • Understanding psychosomatic conditions
  • Stress and emotional influences on pain
  • Autonomic nervous system and the polyvagal theory
  • Acute stress vs. chronic stress and influences on pain

At the completion of this course, attendees will be able to appreciate the impact of mind, body, emotions on patient presentation and begin to integrate the concept of biopsychosocial into patient care.
